"What we find compelling about [Citadel] is the high concept at the core of the show, which is that the lead characters have their memories wiped," Joe Russo tells Total Film. "And now they’re 'regular' people, and they have to rediscover the intrigue and complications of their past, and they’re forced to do it against a ticking clock because their lives are at stake, the lives of the people they care about are at stake, and ultimately the world could be at stake."

"It's really hard not, through your own experience, to get angry at how underfunded and under-researched it is," writer Alice Birch says of the real-life stuff that inspires the Mantle sisters' work. "It's really shocking. I feel like I was processing those things through the show too."
